6 Days – Selous Game Reserve & Mikumi National Park Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Dar es Salaam

Your journey begins in the bustling city of Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, our friendly Siha Discovery team will be there to welcome you and help you transition into the adventure ahead. After a short briefing about your safari itinerary, enjoy a leisurely afternoon to explore the city. Savor local Tanzanian cuisine at one of the city’s fantastic restaurants or take a stroll along the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean.

Tip: Don’t forget to try the famous Tanzanian seafood and the local specialty, Ugali!

In the evening, we’ll arrange your accommodation in a comfortable hotel, where you can rest and prepare for the exciting days to come.

Day 2: Journey to Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Selous Game Reserve, one of Africa’s largest and most untouched wildlife reserves. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours, but the journey itself is part of the adventure. Along the way, you’ll pass through charming villages and breathtaking landscapes, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of the Tanzanian people.

Upon arrival, your senses will be awakened by the sights and sounds of the wild. After settling into your lodge, prepare for an afternoon game drive. Selous is renowned for its abundant wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, and a plethora of bird species. Our experienced guides will lead you to the best spots for wildlife viewing, ensuring that your camera captures every magical moment.

In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner under the African stars, and listen to the symphony of the bush. There’s nothing quite like the experience of dining in the heart of nature!

Day 3: Exploring Selous Game Reserve

Today, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in the wonders of Selous. Start your day with an early morning game drive, where the rising sun casts a golden glow over the landscape. The early hours are prime time for spotting wildlife, as animals are most active during this cool part of the day.

After a thrilling morning, return to your lodge for breakfast, and then prepare for a boat safari on the Rufiji River. This unique experience allows you to view wildlife from a different perspective. Keep your eyes peeled for hippos basking in the sun and crocodiles lounging by the riverbank. The river is also home to various bird species, making this an ideal spot for birdwatchers.

In the afternoon, you’ll embark on another game drive, exploring the diverse terrains of the reserve. As dusk approaches, the savannah transforms into a vibrant tapestry of colors, and the magic of the African sunset is a sight to behold.

Day 4: Transition to Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to Selous and continue your journey to Mikumi National Park. The drive will take around 3-4 hours, during which you can reflect on the incredible wildlife and experiences you’ve had so far.

Upon arrival in Mikumi, you’ll check into your accommodation and have lunch. This park is famous for its large herds of elephants and the iconic “Mikumi floodplain,” where you can often see lions resting under acacia trees and zebra grazing peacefully nearby.

In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive in Mikumi National Park. Here, the landscape is dotted with baobab trees and stunning views of the Udzungwa Mountains. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including wildebeests, buffalo, and various antelope species. As your guide shares insights about the ecosystems and animals, you’ll find yourself even more connected to this remarkable place.

Day 5: Discovering Mikumi National Park

Today is dedicated to exploring the heart of Mikumi National Park. After an early breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive. The park’s expansive savannah offers excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife up close.

Take your time to savor the moments as you spot elephants interacting with their young, sleek leopards lounging in the branches of trees, and playful baboons moving through the grasslands. The unique landscape of Mikumi provides a picturesque backdrop for your safari experience.

At midday, you’ll enjoy a packed lunch in the park, which offers a moment to relax and absorb the sights and sounds of nature surrounding you.

As the sun begins to set, we’ll head back to your lodge. Gather around the campfire for a traditional Tanzanian dinner while sharing stories of the day’s adventures with fellow travelers.

Day 6: Return to Dar es Salaam

As your extraordinary safari experience comes to an end, enjoy one last breakfast surrounded by the stunning sights of Mikumi. After breakfast, we’ll start our journey back to Dar es Salaam, where you can reflect on the incredible experiences you’ve had.
